iTunes + GW
Seems to work fine initially but after a couple mins(usually) itunes will start spitting out choppy/staticy sounding music(its not comp lag)...i am forced to close itunes and afterward the sound in GW usually lacks sound as well (I usually notice this in the lack of battle sounds-- i dont have music on in gw)
any idea on how to fix this?

iTunes is very CPU unfriendly, so running it underneath GW is going to cause very heavy load on even the most up to date single core processor. Now, what kind of system have you got? I'm asking this because I have an AMD 3500 with 1GB of ram and I can't run iTunes with anything even moderately demanding because of the way it eats resouces.
Another thing is, do you have onboard sound or a dedicated soundcard? Either way, the best advice would be to make sure your motherboard/soundcard drivers are up to date. And get a different media player to run underneath GW - Winamp runs just fine with GW, I can personally attest to that, plus it's free.

I run iTunes and GW on a 3.2GHz dual core with a medium quality soundcard and it still works fine, so its prolly a matter of processor, ram or video card, windows media works fine with GW but it can still be hard for some processors. So if you have a single core processor, i'd go with Moa Bird Cultist and get winamp free.

iTunes is evil and must die!
or just stop it self starting at windows start up, I actually did this for my housemate and he's running the same rig as me and he got an increase in start up of nearly 5 seconds

I usually run GW, Media Center (watching TV or Movie, live or recorded), and MSN chat, and vent at the same time and don't have any problems.
Your computer just may not be up to it. Also make sure you have the latest version of iTunes as there was a previous version of 7 that had a lot of problems with choppy playback.

Same, although I use Winamp, I have no problems running GW with the -mute tag.
I have found that music that I rip from Windows Media Player will chop on occassion.

/agree with Lonesamurai, iTunes is teh suck, if I didn't have an iPod shuffle, there would be no way I'd allow it on my computer, honestly, it's like apple intentionally code the windows version badly to try and encourage people to buy macs... (speakin of which, what is up with those 'I'm a PC, I'm a mac' ads? And why do they make me side with the PC guy? ) As for WMP rips being choppy when played against GW, it might be down to the bitrate at which WMP rips the music, anything over 320kbps causes quite a heavy cpu load and much, much more so if you're running onboard sound. Don't underestimate the difference between running a dedicated soundcard and running from a motherboard's sound chip - the difference is far bigger than most people think. And yeah, the main reason lots of people use winamp under their games is because winamp is relatively light on cpu load.

I used to have exactly the same problem until I updated my sound drivers, which did the job nicely.

I have a 2 year old PC. PIV 3.0 GHz singe core, 1024 ram, GF6800 256 MB, onboard sound card I play iTunes all the time when I play guild wars (whenever I don't use vent really), and I've never had a problem

iTunes, for me, causes quite a disturbance. However I've found that WinAmp doesn't. I've stopped using iTunes when on GW and resort to either using WinAmp (rarely) or just putting up with the in game music.

Had the same issues. Turn the quality on audio in GWs down to medium or low. Since you are listening to music, you won't need to hear all the pretty like nuances. Anyways, try that. If that fails, reinstall your sound driver (onboard or card) I had to do both of those, it wen't away. Also, try reinstalling a fresh version of the new iTunes.
iTunes and GWs just don't get along. iTunes is not as CPU unfriendly as WMP, and Winamp is...well, simple, but I can't use my iPod with it now can I? Offer solutions guys, not DONT USE ITUNES NOOB! /shoottrolls.
